POLICIES AND PRACTICES OF REMEMBRANCE TO PREVENT MASS ATROCITIES

The European Union is built on fundamental values such as freedom, democracy and respect for human rights. Remembrance policies are essential to preserve the memory of the past and keep alive the idea that everyone has a role to play in defending human dignity.

In the occasion of the European Day of Remembrance for the Righteous, the European Centre for International Affairs (ECIA), MEPs Niccolò Rinaldi and Ivo Vajgl, of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, and the European Parliament, with the support of the Budapest Centre for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities, the University of Groningen, the Centre for Global Security and Governance of the University of Aberdeen organised a workshop with the intent to reflect on the strategies of the European Union in the field of remembrance and prevention of mass atrocities.
